Archived event: Hedworthfield public meeting, with guest speaker Professor Allyson Pollock

Public Meeting, Hedworthfield CA, Friday 15th September, 6:30pm

The panel of speakers will include:

  • Guest speaker Allyson Pollock (Consultant in public health medicine and Director of the Institute of Health and Society - Newcastle University)
  • Emma Lewell-Buck MP (South Shields)
  • Marion Langley (Staff Side Chair - South Tyneside District Hospital)
  • Gemma Taylor (SSTHC Coordinator)
  • Roger Nettleship (SSTHC Chair)
The meeting will be chaired by Stephen Hepburn MP (Jarrow)

On July 5th 2017 details were released of a consultation that threatens to permanently close vital services at South Tyneside Hospital. Whilst health commissioners claim this is a “Path to Excellence”, it is driven by massive cuts to both Sunderland and South Tyneside Hospital budgets, and it has not had the involvement or even the support of most clinicians and staff.

This is the second in a series of meetings that SSTHC are organising to; raise awareness of the consultation background, to build support for our local MPs and clinicians who are opposed to the changes, and to keep building a broader movement (along with campaigns throughout the country) to challenge the dismantling and privatising agenda.
