Children attending the local A&E have the same rights to a safe quality service as any other patient. With the pending closure of the overnight children's A&E we say again that this is not a “Path to Excellence”, it will put families with children at considerable risk in accessing this service at South Tyneside Hospital, it will force people to travel further and increase risks for urgent cases. We think that the loss of full maternity services and our Special Care Baby Unit will also mean further risks to expecting mothers in South Tyneside.
