Summary Care Record (SCR)
Last Updated: March, 2019

The SCR is a centrally held database in which our confidential GP records are stored. It was originally intended to provide access to vital information (for example, allergies, recent prescriptions, or bad reactions to drugs) to those providing direct care across different settings. The SCR also provides details of a patient's name, address, date of birth and NHS Number.

94 percent of the population have a Summary Care Record, and there is growing concern that access to patients' SCR will be widened, for example to pharmacies, including Boots or large supermarkets, and may be used for marketing purposes - see  Pharmacy 2U .
