Care in the Community
Last Updated: March, 2019

Care in the Community is a term first used to describe the logic behind closing mental health facilities in the 1980s. Many of those facilities needed closing, but the motivation was not patient need, and they were not replaced with adequate community services. Instead the closure of mental health facilities paved the way for the likes of the  Priory Group . The NHS now sends half of all child and adolescent mental health patients to private hospitals.
